Benefits of Specializing in a Niche As a Seller

Focusing on a specific niche in domain sales will allow you to laser focus on end use buyers. It can also position you as an authority in a field and as the go-to person for domains in a single market.

Specializing in a niche market opens up opportunities to reach out to potential buyers where they are gathered together. This can be physical in-person trade shows as well as online forums and groups. However, one caveat is that you need to select a niche that you are either familiar with or one that you are motivated to learn. Another caveat is that the niche should be a popular one in a market that is lucrative. The buyers must have vested interest in growing their bottom line through online investments and development.

So what are some potential niches that are worth the effort to focus in?

VR/AR/MR

Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Mixed Reality are technologies that fall under the umbrella of Extended Reality (XR). These are in some cases emerging technologies and in most cases are embraced by tech giants and startups. Not only is this an exciting and fun niche to be in but applications of this technology are very broad and continually evolving.

Mortgage and Real Estate

Mortgage and real estate are 2 niches that are so closely related that we put them as one. These markets are very mature and continue to grow. Agents and lenders use the Internet on a daily basis to promote their services. So there is always a need for strong domains for their online presence.

Technology

This is a very broad niche. Tech startups are setting up shop all the time and they are usually well funded or about to be. Tech companies are launching new products and services frequently. This makes the niche with a large pool of potential buyers. If you don’t want to limit yourself to just XR domains, you can branch out to the broad tech niche or zero in on specific niches within the tech world.

GEO Targeted

Geo, or geographic, specific domains are those that use the name of a location like a metropolitan area, a city, or country along with a profession or a functional word as part of the domain. Geo domains can be especially lucrative if you live in the location of the geo targeted domains and are able to make direct contact with potential buyers. You can also attend local business meetings.

There are many niches that you can focus on and reach out to potential buyers in a very targeted way. Food/dining/cooking, SEO, travel, medical/health, are just a few others. You may have a niche already in mind. By focusing on a specific niche does not mean you don’t invest in other domains. Having a portfolio sales site for a niche, however, allows you to explore possibilities to meet and reach out to buyers and position yourself as an expert in naming for that particular niche.

If you build a portfolio in a specific niche, you can reach out to potential buyers at:

  • Conferences/tradeshows
  • Local business meetups
  • Online forums
  • Online groups

All of which would ideally be focused on your niche.
